Representation, Voice & Social Mobility in Action
Recently, the Holistic Wellness Training Centre hosted a full-day programme for 16 students from global majority community Culture Board, in collaboration with local colleges, demonstrating how our space goes far beyond room hire — it becomes a launchpad for futures.
The Day at a Glance
Students took part in an immersive experience combining media, equity training, communication skills, and industry exposure, including anti-racism and inclusive leadership training.
The Culture Board Ambassadors Programme runs throughout the year and brings together young people from diverse backgrounds to develop confidence, voice, leadership, and real-world exposure.
Group sizes vary depending on the programme and partners involved, but the impact remains consistent — empowering young people, particularly women and those from underrepresented communities, to see themselves as leaders, creatives, and decision-makers.
What Students Experienced
Through the programme, students:
- Designed and produced their own podcasts, developing storytelling, communication, and media skills
- Took part in high-level interviews, including the opportunity to interview the Head of the Commonwealth — an extraordinary experience that elevated confidence and aspiration
- Engaged with a wide network of industry and cultural partners, opening doors to spaces and conversations often inaccessible to young people
Participants also had opportunities to engage in sessions and events connected to:
- The common wealth
- Parliamentary events and industry development
- Major cultural venues, including Alexandra Palace
- Interview leaders and development of youth led regionally and nationally
These experiences allowed students to operate in professional, high-profile environments — not as observers, but as contributors.
Training, Values & Development
Alongside creative and leadership development, the Culture Board Ambassadors Programme includes structured training in:
- Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
- Wellness and emotional resilience
- Anti-racism and culturally intelligent practice
This ensures students are not only gaining opportunities, but also developing the awareness, confidence, and tools needed to navigate industry spaces safely and authentically.
Why This Matters
For many young people, social mobility starts with representation.
Seeing themselves reflected in:
- Leadership
- Media
- Cultural and political spaces
…helps them believe they belong there too.
The Culture Board Ambassadors Programme is a core part of our programme development because it:
- Builds confidence and self-belief
- Expands professional networks
- Connects young people to diverse role models
- Creates pathways into education, industry, and leadership
Space with Purpose
Programmes like this show that when organisations use our spaces, they are contributing to something bigger. This is not just about hiring a room —
it’s about investing in people, potential, and the future of our communities.
