With a background that combines frontline safeguarding experience and a deep commitment to promoting safe learning environments, Lis has become a leading voice in helping young people, teachers, and safeguarding professionals understand and recognise the complex dynamics of coercive control and is has recently worked with department for education on resources for young people to support the commitment in this field.

Lis’s approach emphasises the importance of looking at abuse through the lens of coercive control, rather than focusing solely on physical violence or overt forms of harm. Their work advocates for a holistic safeguarding framework that encompasses emotional, psychological, and social dimensions of abuse, empowering teachers to spot, respond to, and support those at risk and not only influence changes but also shifts policy.

Lis Hoyte continues to champion a culture of vigilance, empathy, and proactive safeguarding, ensuring that education plays a vital role in breaking cycles of abuse and fostering resilience among youth.
